Gunmen kill two police officers and one civilian in Imo

 Gunmen have killed two police officers at a security checkpoint in Akabo, Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State.


It was gathered that the gunmen attacked the officers in the early hours of Tuesday, June 11, 2024 during a stop-and-search. 

 

 Eyewitness reports said the gunmen also shot dead a passer-by at a checkpoint in Ama-John junction, Akabo. 

 

“There was panic this morning some minutes after 6:am within Akabo (Ama-John) axis along Owerri-Okigwe-Enugu road as a group of gunmen killed two Policemen on duty and a passerby. The armed men drove on the Sienna bus, and they zoomed off after shooting the police officers,” an eyewitness narrated. 

 

The spokesperson of the State Police Command, ASP Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident. 

 

“The Commissioner of Police Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, has deployed the Command’s Special Tactical Squad and equipped them with the available operational resources and intelligence to go all out in synergy with other security agencies and clamp down on the hoodlums responsible for the unprovoked and unwarranted attack and killing of Police Mobile operatives conducting stop-and-search at Akabo in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State," he said.

 

"The tragic incident was perpetrated In the early hours of Tuesday by hoodlums suspected to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate Eastern Security Network (ESN) who attacked the operatives in their numbers firing sporadically. The operatives fought gallantly but unfortunately, two personnel and a civilian were fatally hit

 

"In the wake of the tragic incident, the Commissioner of Police Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma alongside the DC Operations led Police Operatives to the scene of the crime for on-the-spot assessment of the incident. Intense operation is ongoing in the area for possible apprehension and prosecution of the fleeing hoodlums responsible for the senseless act of violence

 

"The Commissioner of Police has set up a high-powered investigation team and tasked them to carry out a comprehensive investigation to unravel the perpetrators of the attack

 

“The lifeless bodies of the affected officers and a civilian have been recovered and deposited in a mortuary for preservation.”

A heavily pregnant Nigerian   woman   sparked discussion when she went into labor minutes after posting a video on   TikTok , ultimately losing her   twins . In a video she shared on her TikTok page from her hospital bed, the woman revealed that she had posted on TikTok shortly before going into labor. However, she disclosed that she lost her twins during labor at the hospital. The video carried a caption that better explains the event: “Few minutes after posting on TikTok, labor took place. Bobrisky pleads guilty to Naira abuse as court strikes out Money Laundering charges Popular cross-dresser, Idris Olanrewaju Okuneye aka Bobrisky, has pleaded guilty to the Naira abuse charge leveled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Bobrisky was arraigned before the Federal High Court, Lagos on a six-count charge bordering on alleged Abuse of the Naira and alleged Money Laundering  When the charge was read, Bobrisky pleaded guilty to the first four counts bordering on Naira abuse.  Before the charge was read, the EFCC’s counsel, Suleiman Suleiman, however asked the court to strike out counts five and six bothering on Money laundering allegations.   Justice Abimbola Awogboro subsequently struck out counts five and six.   Bobrisky was then arraigned on only counts one to four charges. When the counts were read, Bobrisky was asked if he understood the charge that was read to him, he replied, “yes, I am guilty”.
