Tinubu appoints Bisi Akande, Wole Olanipekun and others as chairmen of governing councils for tertiary institutions

  President Bola Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of governing councils and boards for federal tertiary institutions in the country as  disclosed in a statement released by   Nnamdi Mbaeri, the permanent secretary in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) on Friday, June 14.    Tinubu has now appointed Bisi Akande, former interim national chairman of the All Progressives  Congress (APC), to chair the University of Ibadan’s governing council, and Wole Olanipekun, a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and his lawyer in the 2023 election, as the chairman of the University of  Lagos  council.   Isa Yuguda, a former governor of Bauchi, will chair the National Open University’s governing council; Siyan Oyeweso will chair Obafemi Awolowo University’s council; Adebayo Shittu for David Umahi University of Medicine in Ebonyi State; and Muiz Banire and Florence Ita Giwa have been appointed to lead the councils of the Federal University of Transportation in Katsin

Nigeria Secures $3bn from Afreximbank To Boost Industrialisation, Create Thousands Of Jobs

  The FG has partnered with Afreximbank to launch a $3 billion facility, creating 20,000 jobs and boosting industrial zones. Nigeria’s federal government on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Afreximbank to establish a $3 billion Nigeria Industrialisation Financing Facility for an industrial park and light manufacturing. Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr.  Doris Udoka-Anite, signed on behalf of the country on the sidelines of the ongoing Afreximbank Annual Meetings (AAM) 2024 in Nassau, The Bahamas. The deal is expected to lead to the creation of special economic and agro-processing zones across the country and create 20,000 jobs. Russia Will Cease Fire If Ukraine Withdraws Troops From Four Regions, Says Putin

Putin says a ceasefire will take effect if Ukraine withdraws its troops from Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions. Speaking on Friday ahead of an international peace conference in Switzerland that excluded Russia, Vladimir Putin outlined conditions under which Russia would agree to a ceasefire and engage in peace negotiations with Ukraine, amid ongoing conflict in the region. Putin specified that for a ceasefire to take effect, Ukraine must withdraw all its troops from Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions in eastern and southern Ukraine. “The conditions are very simple,” Putin said. National assembly proposes bill to sanction states not complying with new minimum wage

The national assembly is reportedly proposing legislation aimed at sanctioning states that don't comply with the new minimum wage presented by the federal government.    Chairman of Senate Committee on Media and Publicity, Senator Yemi Adaramodu (APC, Ekiti South) who spoke to newsmen on Friday, June 14, said the n ational assembly will ensure the law is seriously watertight that either the state, sub-national or organised private sector that does not comply, will be sanctioned.    He said;    “We are going to do a watertight Bill that we are proposing that the President will sign it to ensure that it is strictly adhered to as a law. “Once it becomes law, we are going to make it watertight, and don’t let us just speculate what is going to be the ingredient that the federal government would be putting into the bill that will be brought by the executive to be submitted to the National Assembly. “When it comes, whatever is there and whatever is not there, we are going to ensure that i
