House of Reps launches probe into internet service providers over alleged extortion of consumers

An investigation has been initiated by the House of Representatives to look into the actions of private Internet Service Providers (ISPs) for allegedly extorting consumers. This development followed a motion introduced during the plenary session by Leke Abejide on Thursday, June 6. In his presentation, the legislator highlighted how many ISPs have operated without facing consequences for their poor services, substandard service delivery, and the exploitation of consumers through unregulated pricing and service quality allowing them to take advantage of Nigerians.   He emphasized that the negative effects of ISPs’ inefficiency and exploitative behaviours have a significant impact on the country, hampering businesses and the economy.   The lawmaker suggested that by addressing ISPs’ inefficiencies and promoting transparency, the government can establish a more equitable digital environment that empowers individuals, boosts the economy, and enhances societal well-being. Lady who was fired 3 hours into her new job shares her story

It was previously reported that a Nigerian woman was terminated from her new job by her managing director just 3 hours after starting. Following this incident, many individuals shared their thoughts in the comments section. The woman has now taken to social media to share her side of the story. According to her, she was posted to the company by NYSC and had completed all necessary documentation. She began her role in the first week of June as instructed. While working at her desk, she was called to the MD’s office by the interviewer. The MD then explained that her qualifications did not align with the organization’s requirements, despite her skills matching the department she was assigned to.

Police arrest ex-convict parading as military personnel in Akwa Ibom

  The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested an ex-convict dressed in military camouflage.     The suspect, Eddiong Anthony Matthew, an indigene of Ikot Ekong Village in Mkpat Enin LGA of the state was arrested by operatives on crime prevention patrol on Wednesday, June 5, 2024.     Spokesperson of the command, ASP Timfon John, who confirmed the arrest in a statement in Uyo on Thursday, said preliminary investigations showed that the suspect was an ex-convict who had been perpetrating a series of crimes in the state in military uniform with a warrant officer rank.     Items recovered from him included one walkie-talkie, phones suspected to have been stolen from his victims, a brown coverall dress and an RCC ID Card.     The PPRO said that the suspect would be charged to court as soon as investigations were concluded.     While urging members of the public to always support the police with reliable intelligence, she expressed the commitment of the Commissioner of Police, Waheed Ayi
