Two members of its vigilante group at the Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo State, have been arrested for allegedly raping a female student of the institution.   The management, in a statement issued on Saturday, May 11, 2024, by its Public Relations Officer, Olufemi Atoyebi, said the university had set up its own internal panel of inquiry to investigate the allegation. Atoyebi said the suspects have been handed over to the police with a vow to ensure heavy penalty on anyone found culpable after a thorough investigation.   Lagos State Government has commenced aggressive enforcement of zero tolerance stance on illegal construction of extensions and attachments on shops and buildings in some markets, as part of ongoing efforts in ensuring safety of lives and property in the state. The General Manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency, LASBCA, Arc Gbolahan Oki, reiterated this at a multi-agency enforcement and removal exercise, carried out to remove extensions and attachments affixed to shops and plazas within the Lagos Island Central Business, CBD, at the weekend. The removal of attachments and extension exercise followed recommendations of the Dosunmu Fire Incident Committee, headed by the Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Mr. Gbenga Oyerinde.   American comedian, James Gregory, known for calling himself “The Funniest Man in America” has passed on at the age of 78.  Gregory’s family said he died on Thursday, May 9, from cardiac complications. James took up comedy in the early ’80s when he was 36 after years of working as a salesman, and, he became the first comedian to take the stage at the legendary Punchline club in Atlanta. While he was known as a Southern comedian, he traveled all across the country performing shows for the next four decades. His biggest claim to fame came when he dubbed himself “The Funniest Man in America” in the ’80s, and, later he took the URL domain “funniestman.com”, cementing himself in his fans’ minds as the funniest man. He is survived by his three nieces and other extended family.

  Governor Usman Ododo has alleged sabotage in the abduction of some students of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTEC) Osara, Kogi, around 9pm on Thursday, May 9, while they were preparing for their examinations. Ododo who visited the university campus for assessment said preliminary investigations point to internal sabotage in the abduction of students in the state. According to him, the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras installed in the school were switched off on the day of the attack. He also thanked security operatives for their efforts in containing the attack and preventing the invaders from gaining access to the hostels. Ododo said;  “We installed CCTV cameras in all the classrooms and the entire perimeter of the university campus.
