The West urges China to intervene with Iran amid fears of a direct attack on Israel

Western diplomats have mounted pressure on China to prevent Iran from escalating tensions in the Middle East with a direct retaliatory strike against Israel.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken earlier this week spoke with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and other counterparts in Turkey and Saudi Arabia amid rising fears of retaliation by Tehran against Israel.Blinken asked the foreign ministers to “make clear that escalation is not in anyone’s interest, and that countries should urge Iran not to escalate,” U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said Thursday.

“We have also engaged with European allies and partners over the past few days and urged them as well to send a clear message to Iran that escalation is not in Iran’s interest, it’s not in the region’s interest, and it’s not in the world’s interest.”

Germany, whose Chancellor Olaf Scholz is visiting China next week, has also been in contact with Beijing over the issue of Iran, where China has influence, according to a Reuters report Friday citing German officials.

U.S. and European officials are treading a fine line with China, denouncing the country as a trade risk while also urging it to use its considerable diplomatic sway with countries isolated by Western sanctions.

Beijing is a critical trade partner of Russia and Iran as one of the last recipients of their oil exports. The three countries are also members of the China-led BRICS coalition of emerging markets.

A heavily pregnant Nigerian   woman   sparked discussion when she went into labor minutes after posting a video on   TikTok , ultimately losing her   twins . In a video she shared on her TikTok page from her hospital bed, the woman revealed that she had posted on TikTok shortly before going into labor. However, she disclosed that she lost her twins during labor at the hospital. The video carried a caption that better explains the event: “Few minutes after posting on TikTok, labor took place. God, who did I offend? I lost the twins you put in me. I have no joy left in me. FCT police drafted to Abuja school where students were filmed bullying their classmate The FCT Police Command has dispatched experienced officers to the Leads British International School grounds to conduct inquiries into the reported cases of bullying.     A statement from the Police Public Relations Officer for the FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh, reads   “In a proactive response to alarms raised by some members of the public regarding videos circulating on social media depicting the bullying of students at the above mentioned school, the FCT Police Command is on top of the situation and has deployed seasoned officers to the school premises for investigations and to forestall any possible breakdown of law and order.”

Bobrisky pleads guilty to Naira abuse as court strikes out Money Laundering charges Popular cross-dresser, Idris Olanrewaju Okuneye aka Bobrisky, has pleaded guilty to the Naira abuse charge leveled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Bobrisky was arraigned before the Federal High Court, Lagos on a six-count charge bordering on alleged Abuse of the Naira and alleged Money Laundering  When the charge was read, Bobrisky pleaded guilty to the first four counts bordering on Naira abuse.  Before the charge was read, the EFCC’s counsel, Suleiman Suleiman, however asked the court to strike out counts five and six bothering on Money laundering allegations.   Justice Abimbola Awogboro subsequently struck out counts five and six.   Bobrisky was then arraigned on only counts one to four charges. When the counts were read, Bobrisky was asked if he understood the charge that was read to him, he replied, “yes, I am guilty”.
